ID- Cards have increased the level of sophistication, performance and functionality of a whole new generaration of cards. However, this improved performace comes at price, since ID -Cards are significantly more expensive than their predecessor, Cards with a short lifespan, like blank, phone or membership cards. This has forced the industry to find alternative materials that offer better performance and longer lifetimes than traditional materials. Improved performance may translate to better temperature stability, solvent resistance, flex performance and /or print definition.

As maximum durability for the identity cards is essential, we propose using a plastic card made of Polycarbonate (PC) which is particularly resistant to wear and tear and exposure to high temperatures.
The card is laminated from several layers of foil, all layers being made of Polycarbonate. In the production process the layers are laminated under pressure and heat without using a glue, to form a consistent body. It is very difficult to separate these layers and virtually impossible to do so without irreversible damage to the card structure.
The outside foils are transparent and protect printing and personalization data on the inner layers. All security and personalization features are hermetically sealed. |

Compared to other synthetic materials, the card material offers the highest resistance to mechanical, chemical and thermal stress as well as to environmental influences, ensuring long durability of all its features. The card material is most suitable for use as a carrier of visual and machine-readable security features.
Under realistic conditions, the actual lifetime may vary from card to card, since the lifetime depends on many factors, e. g. the local holders' using and carrying habits, and the stresses suffered due to environmental conditions (temperature, changes in temperature, humidity, ultraviolet light irradiation, alternating mechanical stress etc.). According to our exhaustive experience gained in our thorough quality assessment laboratories, PC cards offer the durability need for an 'identity' card. The useful life of the card is sufficient for validity periods of 10 years. |
